Wick's Review

Created May 19, 2008 02:06AM PST • Edited Dec 28, 2012 02:39PM PST

  1. Quality
  2. Good 3.0

All the LOL moments are in the trailers. Still, Ashton and Cameron are likable, hot, self-deprecatingly funny, and have more than a smidgen of chemistry together, so the movie is a bit better than OK.

  3. OK 2.5

Ashton Kutcher plays likable narcissist as if … he is one. Still, it works for him. Cameron Diaz has become her generation’s wacky Meg Ryan. Both are in fine form here, even if the uneven script often lets them down.

Their sidekicks – so necessary to the comic sustenance of a movie like this – are just not funny. Silly, rude, obnoxious? Yes. Funny? No.

The tertiary supporting characters are funny, but not enough to have much impact. They include Jason Sudeikis, Dennis Farina, Zach Galifianakis, Queen Latifah and Dennis Miller.

  4. Male Stars Great 4.0
  5. Female Stars Very Good 3.5
  6. Female Costars Pretty Bad 1.5
  7. Male Costars Pretty Bad 1.5
  8. Good 3.0

The movie has more than a few LOL moments. It has also had numerous trailers spilling all the good gags. I’m thinking this will make it a great rental in a few years because it will seem fresher when not preceded by a wave of spoilers.

  9. Direction Good 3.0
  10. Play Very Good 3.5
  11. Music OK 2.5
  12. Visuals Very Good 3.5
  13. Content
  14. Tame 1.4
  15. Sex Titillating 1.7
  16. Violence Gentle 1.0
  17. Rudeness Polite 1.5
  18. Glib 1.2
  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.3
  20. Biological Glib 1.2
  21. Physical Natural 1.0
