   Pretty Bad 1.5

   Action movies rarely find success with Christmas theatrical releases – this sci-fi conglomerate is no exception. Even with the exciting potential of the predator’s home planet as a new setting and a new combination element (that doesn’t work), this Alien Vs. Predator movie doesn’t reach the same entertainment level as the individual Alien and Predator predecessors.

   No memorable performances – the creatures are the stars here.

    Very Good 3.5

    The talented visual effects team of Greg and Colin Strause (yes, another filmmaking brother duo) make a pretty decent feature directorial debut. The Strauses even include several nice, mildly entertaining homages to the previous Predator and Alien film series, which most audiences will recognize. The plot has nothing to build on (the heroine Alexa Wood from the previous installment makes no appearance here) and there’s really nothing new. The movie has lots of fast paced violence and dark lighting, so adjust your home system accordingly.
