  2. Great 4.0

An amazing performance by Daniel Day-Lewis as an early day oil men. The hardship, dedication, and sheer business will he went through to strike liquid gold was well portrayed. I loved the early scenes where Daniel’s infant son is being indoctrinated by a smudge of oil to the forehead and a splash of whisky in his bottle. The use of the growing son in the movie was an excellent way to communictate how cunning, foresight, business sense, and persistence paid off, as well as the pain when loss came their way. In what almost seemed like a competition, Paul Dano as Eli played the enigmatic Eli the preacher — but it wasn’t quite enough to outdo the emotional speeches and performance from Daniel and his relentless drive. The latter half of the movie was a little too slow moving and over the top with Daniel’s antics and obsessive behavior — but, it did definitely prove that the man has range. All in all, a very enjoyable movie that highlights great acting skill.

Wick

Regarding Wolfman898’s Review
Great slam Wolfman, and largely deserved. I too was troubled and putoff by the absurd turn towards ridiculous villianry in the second half of the movie.

Wick

First of all, my apologies if an alert went out twice about my review. I was logged in as Administrator, and forgot to login as Wick before first creating my review.

Anyway, it was quite the mob scene at the premiere of TWBB last night. Lines out the door, hard to find parking, all the hallmarks of a blockbuster. And while I rated the movie Great, it surely isn’t your run-of-the-mill blockbuster. As I said to the woman ahead of me in line, “It ain’t no Armageddon.”

Thus I wasn’t surprised that much of the talk as people were leaving the theater was quiet appreciation and bemusement rather than “Wow, what a great movie.”
